Amazing treehouses near L.A.

1. The peaceful treehouse with ocean views in Aptos

A midcentury treehouse? Insane, ridiculous, and completely perfect, we’re in love. The open kitchen, sweeping views, and stylish furniture are far more dream Cali house in the 1960s (but modernized) than rustic cabin, but there are still plenty of treehouse vibes (helped by the Japanese shutters) with two levels of walkways to reach the home and a hammock on the patio (you're in L.A you know the indoor-outdoor vibes are in full flow here). Sleeping up to six guests in three gorgeously rustic bedrooms, it's a great and unique alternative for a stag/hen do. A chance to live out your childhood dreams.

Rooms? Three bedrooms. Sleeps six guests.
The mood? Chic and architectural.
Location perks? Your nearest sunset paradise is Capitola Beach – just three miles away.
Budget range? No expense spared this epic glamiping trip.

2. The earthy treehouse in San Jose

With sweeping views of Silicon Valley and a pair of lofted beds, this 250 sq ft treehouse feels like the backyard clubhouse you always wanted to build when you hit the jackpot and retired. Wind up the spiral staircase and you’ll find tons of windows here, natural light a'plenty, plus a full bathroom and kitchenette for days where you decide to stay in and relax. Alum Rock and San Jose are in the distance though, should you fancy a hike. The Airbnb sleeps four guests so makes for a fun trip with your pals or the family, embracing your youthful side and taking some time out to detox from city life.

Rooms? Two bedrooms. Sleeps four guests.
The mood? Cozy as hell!
Location perks? Close to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo.
Budget range? A little on the pricy side, but goes down a treat with the kiddos.

3. The treehouse farm stay in Fillmore

This little treehouse sits on a 10-acre family farm, which means waking up with the roosters before strolling the orchard to collect fresh eggs, in an idyllic way – you won't be mucking out the coup or anything like that, don't worry. Though the house isn’t built into an actual tree, it sits suspended nine feet up in a grove of orange and avocado trees... Does it get more California-dreamy than that? The citrus aromas are dreamy, too. For the kid in you, there’s a pole to slide down (or dance on) and a basket hoist for transporting eggs and fruit up to your abode. And for the adult in you that needs to relax, ask about the professional massage therapist on-call. Go on. You'll need it after messing around on the pole, won't you? The Airbnb caters to up to two guests, so grab your other half for a trip of fun, laughter, and nature. You'll feel closer together afterwards.

Rooms? One bedroom. Sleeps two guests.
The mood? Country bumpkin livin'.
Location perks? A peaceful farmland retreat with nearby restaurants should you fancy.
Budget range? A hunky-dory weekend getaway for two.

4. The romantic treehouse in the Redwoods

This Santa Cruz property really emphasizes the 'house' part of treehouse. Inside the two-room suite, which includes locally-sourced breakfasts from its B&B host, you’d easily mistake it for a comfy farmhouse. But it’s wholly unique from the outside, where it’s suspended 14 feet off the ground in a ring of beautiful (and massive) redwoods. There are seats out there too, so you can sit and marvel at what feels like a pine forest on your balcony – because it is one! Imagine sitting on part of a tree looking at the rest of the trees while living inside a tree, all way up off the ground. Crazy. Images suggest some nice animals live in close proximity too, so there's something to look forward to! There are fresh muffins, oatmeal, coffee, and tea in the treehouse along with a mini-fridge.

Rooms? One bedroom. Sleeps two guests.
The mood? Tree nestled dreamhouse.
Location perks? Bonny Doon isn't too far away, and you can drive to the seaside of Davenport very easily.
Budget range? A spenny couple's weekend.

5. The modern treehouse in Brea

Brea's a historic neighborhood just 11 miles from Disneyland, which means it's also pretty close to L.A., at least given how otherwordly and secluded the treehouse will feel once you're inside. The multi-level abode in the leaves contains a rooftop patio tucked among the branches, its plush-looking wood that we reckon smells like living inside a box of pencil shavings. You’ll also welcome the roomy double bed and small (let's go with cozy) kitchen inside. There's a private bathroom detached from the house. To get back to the ground quickly, opt for the twisty yellow slide. Good in an emergency, and good when you're bored. Ideal. No walking up it though, even though we know you want to. Did we mention how close Disneyland was? Birch Street is a five-minute walk away too and has more than everything you'll need.

Rooms? One bedroom. Sleeps three guests.
The mood? Backyard escape.
Location perks? You'll love the food scene in downtown Brea.
Budget range? This sweet dig comes with an even sweeter price.

6. The forest treehouse in Watsonville

Built by a stained glass artist, this treehouse has its main redwood tree growing directly through the living area (and another through the bathroom!) Not that it has much to do with staining glass, but it's pretty cool, isn't it? There’s a comfy high bed, a kitchen with a small stove and refrigerator, a full bathroom with a shower and toilet, and a gas stove for heating, along with a TV and DVD player. There’s also a 103-degree hot tub on the premises for late-night or early-morning soaks. And yes, you're a little while from LA (five hours) but equally, you're not at all far from the sea, from San Jose, and therefore by extension Fremont and San Francisco. A West-coast world of choice. At the time of writing, there are some (but not a lot) free slots, so get on it if this sounds like utter paradise to you! Also, the windows are completely beautiful and really do add to the charm and tranquillity of the place.

Rooms? One bedroom. Sleeps two guests.
The mood? Rustic and homely.
Location perks? Located in the mesmerising Santa Cruz mountains.
Budget range? A moderately-priced romantic lodging.

7. The vineyard treehouse in Los Gatos

Located on Lago Lomita Vineyards with a view of the entire Monterey Bay, this treehouse Airbnb is a treat for wine and nature lovers. Ideal for a couple on a romantic break, this Airbnb has a cozy queen-sized bed on a treetop deck. The deck also has seating for you to cuddle up and watch the sunset, or sing with the birds in the morning. On the ground, you'll find a full bathroom with a bathtub, and the sleeping headquarters (the tent) has electricity and Wi-Fi, so you're not completely off-grid.

Rooms? One bedroom. Two guests.
The mood? Touching the sky.
Location perks? Enjoy the gorgeous sunset over the mountains at 45ft.
Budget range? A luxurious couple's stay.

8. The luxury treehouse in Nicasio

This cozy treehouse isn’t entirely secluded, but it’s definitely a retreat that'll take you out of ordinary hustle and bustle with ease. The treehouse is actually a signature suite at the larger Danehill Manor resort, so you'll find you're within reach of people if you want them (and very able to hide from them if you don't). You’ll find a queen bed plus a private bathroom and shower in your mid-tree abode, but there are plenty of other amenities on the rest of the reservoir-front property, including dining experiences, horsemanship, dog training, massages, yoga and meditation (all for an extra cost) arguably, it's the perfect mix of treehouse, natural, luxury and the convenience and pampering of a nice hotel.

Rooms? One bedroom. Sleeps two guests.
The mood? Rustic ranch meets elegant.
Location perks? Full access to the estate on top of 25 acres of California hilltop. Lush.
Budget range? A taste of the high life.
