Everything you need to know about Hong Kong’s flight ticket giveaway

Here’s the low-down on how to apply for the free airline tickets

In case you haven’t heard, Hong Kong is giving out over 700,000 free airline tickets under the Hello Hong Kong campaign to boost city tourism. These tickets will be distributed in phases through airlines Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines. Apart from the 500,000 tickets allotted for overseas travellers, around 80,000 tickets will be given away to Hong Kong residents. 

Cathay Pacific has already rolled out several phases for Asian regions like Southeast Asia, mainland China, Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa. For the campaign’s latest instalment, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines will be distributing a total of 24,000 tickets to travellers from Korea. Additionally, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express will be distributing over 26,000 round-trip tickets to travellers from Japan.

We’ve gathered all the key information that you need to know, so that you can apply with ease.

All giveaways are open to those who are over 18 years old. As of May 16 and 17, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines have been distributing a total of 24,000 flight tickets that fly into Hong Kong for those residing in Korea. Hong Kong Airlines and Cathay Pacific’s giveaway have already ended, but Greater Bay Airlines’ giveaway will end on July 31.

Cathay Pacific will distribute a grand total of 12,000 tickets to residents of Japan from June 26 and will close on July 2 until supplies last, and HK Express will be giving out a total of 14,9000 round trip tickets on a first-come, first-served basis to Japanese residents from June 30 until July 9 until supplies last. Additionally, Hong Kong Airlines will roll out with a ‘two-for-one’ offer, where the airline will be distributing round-trip tickets departing from Japanese cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, Fukuoka, or Nagoya.

How do I apply?

Each applicant can only apply for the giveaway once. Those applying for Cathay Pacific’s giveaway must have a membership with the airline or sign up before partaking in the giveaway.

For travellers applying from Japan, log onto Cathay Pacific’s website on June 26 at 12pm to select your departing city, and submit your information. Please note that your form will be prefilled with the name registered in your Cathay member profile, and it must match the name on your passport. As for HK Express’ giveaway, participants will need to log onto the airline’s website on June 26 to choose their desired flight and submit their personal information in order to book their flights. 

Finally, participants who want to apply for Greater Bay Airlines’ ongoing giveaway to Korea can visit Greater Bay Airlines’ website from June 10 to June 30 to register their details and get their flight tickets.

Full details on how to apply for ticket giveaways departing from Taiwan will be released on Cathay Pacific and Greater Bay Airlines’ websites at later dates.

How will I know if I won?

Successful applicants who applied for Cathay Pacific’s giveaway departing from South Africa will receive a confirmation email upon registration. Additionally, all successful applicants will be able to find their full name, and the first and last two characters of their email address, on the South African giveaway page from June 27 onwards.

Whereas for Cathay’s giveaway departing from Japan, all winners will be notified about the results of the lucky draw on July 12 via email. The email sent out to winners will also contain details on how to use their unique ticket redemption code to book their flight tickets. Alternatively, all HK Express participants will receive an itinerary confirmation email if their flight booking is successful. 

As for participants who applied for Greater Bay Airlines’ giveaway departing from Korea, successful applicants will be notified through email and their phone from July 3. Additionally, successful applicants will be able to find their name on Greater Bay Airlines’ Naver blog on the same day.

Don’t worry. Cathay Pacific and the other airlines mentioned above will gradually roll out more ticket giveaways for destinations, such as Taiwan in July.
